Community Sport

Community Sports Delivery is all go for 2026, we are currently working in 12 local schools and 4 early childhood centres. On top of this we also run sessions based on sport and play for homeschool groups, twice weekly.  Our team sees over 1500 tamariki and rangitahi each week!

The Pak’nSave Te Awamutu Super 6 Touch series has just wrapped up for another year, with 60 junior touch teams playing each Thursday night. This module was competitive, and we kept the scores. At the end of the 6 weeks, we had a straight final in each year group. Over 700 students were playing touch every week.

Home school sports sessions take place every Tuesday and Friday mornings, largely in the Indoor Centre. Last year, we introduced a “Teens Only” class for students 13+, which has proved to be extremely popular. Each session has a sports-based theme, and we run multiple games and activities every week.

At the end of 2025, we were lucky enough to get funding from Tu Manawa to run our ‘Mini Movers’ Programme for students in Years 1-4, in every school we deliver in. MM is a fun, play-based physical activity program designed to teach fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, balancing, throwing, and catching. It utilises structured games and inclusive movement challenges to help children engagingly develop confidence and physical literacy. We would like to thank Tu Manawa for their support in helping us to get such an awesome programme off the ground!

The “Toddler Takeover” programme is ever-growing! We are now delivering in four early childhood centres and run our own toddler program here, at the Indoor Centre, with 20 toddlers attending each week. The foundation of this programme is to focus on the fundamentals of movement. Each week has a different focus, and we look to improve toddlers' movement skills through play and games.

Our in-school programme is constantly expanding and getting better with each term that passes. We are lucky to have three full-time staff members delivering our sports, active recreation and play programs to our community. Jasmine and Karne are a massive asset to our team, and we look forward to continuing to grow our program in the future.

We recently held our first Māori games festival led as part of our “Positive Vibes Only” campaign. We had just over 220 students playing in this tournament, with games such as poi toa, hūpō ariki, tapu ae and ti uru. We have had amazing feedback, and we look forward to running this again in 2027.
